Of Souls and Secrecy

SotS Tour Button

Author Terri Rochenski is blog touring with her brand new release, SECRET OF THE SOULS! For her stop on my blog, I asked her, What is the biggest surprise the story and/or characters in had store for you as the author? Her response – and all the need-to-know novel details – are below. Read on!

* * * * *

This is a LOADED question!! One, unfortunately, I cannot answer.

You see, the ending – the climax – of the Pool of Souls series reveals the SECRET OF THE SOULS, which is hidden from all our characters throughout the entire story. Sneaky gods!! It’s a surprise, a grand old secret, which no reader (as of yet) has seen coming.

This all came about by my own dealings with people in positions of authority overstepping their bounds and taking advantage of those ‘beneath’ them. A pulling of strings behind the scenes. The using of minions to accomplish their lofty goals.

Sacrificing for the great good and all that jazz.

Right? Wrong? Depends upon which side you stand on, and what convictions you hold.

When Hyla learns the truth, her faith is shaken, and it’ll cost the life of one she could have loved.

Secret [of the Souls] No Longer

It’s a Cover Reveal Day for fellow J. Taylor Publishing author Terri Rochenski! Remember last fall when Terri stopped by here with a letter to one of her characters from her novel, “Eye of the Soul”? Well, that novel’s sequel in the works. And just look at how pretty its face is!

SecretOfTheSouls-web

Sword! Castle! Water! Sky! Green eyes! Just throw half of my favorite things all together, why don’t you! Of course, it’s only fitting that the cover be so fantastic. The book is a fantasy, after all.

Meanwhile, on the back of the book…

Entertaining Angels (and Blog-Touring Authors)

Two things today! Part One, a guest post and cover reveal from an author pal and her upcoming book! Part Two, a quick roundup of the stops so far on my “Inspired” blog tour. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Part One: Emerald Barnes and Entertaining Angels

EntertainingAngels, banner

Emerald Barnes: I am super thrilled to show you the beautiful cover for my newest and upcoming novel, Entertaining Angels. Again, my cover artist was Natasha Brown, and she is super talented. She brought my disjointed vision to life, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank her properly.

I can’t wait to publish it, which I’m hoping will be in May. That’s what I’m estimating anyway. But, I couldn’t wait any longer to show you my beautiful cover!

EntertainingAngels, cover

About Entertaining Angels:

Madison Andrews can’t face her reflection in the mirror. All she sees is a big, fat nobody. Yet, deep inside she longs for something more, something that’s not skin deep.

Along comes Zach, the new guy in school. He’s smoking hot and totally out of her league. She somehow catches his eye, and he makes her feel beautiful for once. But just as she gets close to Zach, her nerdy best friend, Chase, won’t let Madison doubt her true beauty, no matter how many meals she skips.

Even as Madison begins to realize that she is more than what she thinks, darker forces are at work, darker than the lies and mocking from her peers, stopping her from amounting to her full potential. Can Madison find true happiness in her own skin?

<<<>>>

Emerald Barnes: Why is Entertaining Angels so near and dear to my heart? Well, it’s basically my story growing up in high school. Well, I didn’t have a Chase, but I was Madison. I had a hard time looking at myself in the mirror because I felt so horrible about the way I looked. All I could see in my reflection was someone who I didn’t think was loveable. I couldn’t even love myself for who I was. I wanted to be skinnier, prettier, and more popular.

Sure, I had friends who were popular, but I could tell the difference in their attitude towards me as opposed to someone more like them, you know the type. Guys were my friends, but they were never interested in me as more than a friend. I was overweight, and I didn’t stand a chance in the high school world. Well, that’s why I thought anyway.

I lived my life in a daydream, hoping that one day God would answer my prayers, and I’d wake up skinny and hot. Little did I know, I was beautiful. I am a daughter of the King, but I didn’t really realize the implications of that phrase until I was much older. I was out of college before I truly understood what that meant.

One night, God spoke to me, not in a loud audible voice or a burning bush, but through song. Beautiful by MercyMe. I was driving home from my cousin’s house late one night when it came on the radio. The Presence of God filled my little Alero, and God told me I was beautiful because He made me. I was His creation, and God only creates beautiful things.

How does this tie into Entertaining Angels? God wanted me to share my revelation with the world, specifically young adults, but I think that even older women need to hear it. We don’t fully understand the implications of what it means to be a child of God.

Do you know how much He loves you? It’s our job to understand how much He does love us, and then, we need to learn how to love ourselves like he loves us. Entertaining Angels is about just that. It’s about one girl’s journey of self-discovery. Madison learns to love herself, and she sees just how important she is in God’s eyes.

It’s important that we love ourselves, and it’s my hopes that this novel does that for women of all ages. This is why Entertaining Angels is so near and dear to my heart.

Part Two: Meanwhile, on the “Inspired” blog tour…

Aptly enough, on Monday we kicked things off with a short ‘n’ sweet interview on the blog of the good folks who helped me get the novel out into the world, J. Taylor Publishing.

That same day found me on the blog of fellow JTP author J.A. Belfield (of Holloway Pack fame), where I dreamed aloud about the 10 ways I would spend the day if I could do it with one of my best character friends, Will Scarlet.

And today, I’m visiting Scribbler’s Sojourn, blog of Terri Rochenski (JTP author of the Pool of Souls), with a letter to my personal muse.

Plenty more tour stops still to come (full schedule available on my website’s homepage), and the fantastic book behind it all is still gloriously available for purchase. So if you feel thus inspired, make sure to get your copies!

P.S. – Don’t forget to enter my giveaway for a chance to win awesome free “Inspired” goodies. (:

“Conlin” or “To Character, From Author, With Love”

Welcome to my stop on the “Eye of the Soul” blog tour! I reviewed the novel on its release day last month, and now author Terri Rochenski herself is here (or, well, her words are!) with a very special little guest post at my character-loving request: A letter to one of her own.

<<<>>>

Conlin,

Can I just tell you what a pleasant surprise you turned out to be? When my muse first introduced us, I put you into a little box, one all neat and tidy by a true planner, someone who doesn’t care for change a whole lot.

As your story unfolded and interwove with Hyla’s, though, you stretched a bit and pecked at that box like a baby chick will its shell until you emerged into a different light and I was able to see you clearly.

The ensuing conflicts and tension that arose intrigued me and I had no choice but to tell your story as you dictated. You became a Gift to many, a blessing in disguise. Who knew the gods had such plans for you? Who knew the depths of your faith and your faithfulness? I can’t wait for our followers to read the final chapters of your story. I hope they’re as happy with your ending as I am.

Thank you for refusing to stay where I thought you belonged, but most of all thank you for allowing me to tell your story.

-Terri

Escape.

That should be Hyla’s first thought as her people are chained and imprisoned for no imaginable reason.

Instead, Hyla finds herself traveling through a land void of Natives, with human soldiers pillaging in desperate pursuit of her, and in search of the mystical Pool of Souls—home to the one man who can save her people.

Or so she believes.

Led by her faith in the deity Fadir, Hyla is met along her journey by Jadon—a human male and fierce King’s warrior, and his childhood best friend Conlin—one of the few Natives aware of his Fadir-given Talents.

Protected by Jadon, guided by Conlin, and with an unfailing belief in the purpose of her pilgrimage, Hyla carries on.

Like her, though, another searches for the Pool, and should he gain access first, everyone she loves, and everything she knows, could be lost.

Forever.

“Eye of the Soul” … or My Review of It, To Start

It’s a book birthday! The latest J. Taylor Publishing novel has left the nest, and I had the chance to read and review an advance copy! Here’s the rundown, folks:

The Book: “Eye of the Soul (Pool of Souls #1)” by Terri Rochenski.

perf5.250x8.000.indd

Genre: Fantasy.

Blurb:

Forever.

My Thoughts: This was a pleasant read. Not saying there was anything pleasant about the mistreatment of the Natives at the hands and mystifying power of the cruel High Priest, mind you. But I mean, I did get through the whole book in one day, so that ought to tell you something.

Speaking of High Priest Belwig, he was a good bad guy – properly ruthless and creepy, with a plausible motivation behind his horrendous acts.

Meanwhile, on the side of right, I enjoyed the friendship between Jadon and Conlin, as well as the characters themselves. Both were brave and self-sacrificial, which I love in a hero. And poor Hyla may not have felt so brave or equipped to face her dire circumstances, but soldiered ahead the best she knew how, never surrendering to legitimate fear, self-pity, and doubt. For that, I commend her.

HSYRT? (Hey, Should You Read This?): A little political (but not to the point where my eyes completely glazed over), a little inspirational (but not to the point where it read like a sermon disguised as a novel), and with an ending that had me sighing with tension relieved and questioning what was to come on the same breath, I’m game to follow Hyla, Jadon, and Conlin into their next book of adventure. You are all totally invited to do the same. …once you’ve read Book One, of course – which you can do, starting today!

Terri Rochenski will be visiting here with a guest post on November 5th as a part of her Eye of the Soul blog tour! In the meantime, her book is now available here:

Amazon Paperback  /  Amazon Kindle  /  Barnes & Noble  /  Kobo

And she’s got a giveaway going on! So go out and cast your eye over this author’s new work, and be sure to let her know if/when you love it. (:

“Awake No Mo—” or “Alone! ‘Alone No More’! Deepest Dale, I’m Tired…”

Just popping in real quick before I fall into my post-Ren-Faire-closing-weekend coma (did I mention it was a 3-day weekend? Coma nothing, I may just die…) to jump on the cover reveal train for author-friend Terri Rochenski’s new short historical romance before the last car pulls out of the station. Y’all ready? Cover and stats, comin’ atcha.

Alone No More

Ah-h, that’s real pretty… Stats. Right. Have stats. And a blurb. And all that good stuff.

Without the social status to do much more than avoid the vile man, she loses hope of ever finding happiness.

A friendship based on mutual loneliness blossoms between Cara and James Elliot, a young farm hand hired by her father. He offers his protection, and one shared kiss reveals his heart, but propriety and her feigned grieving period hinders what they both desire.

When Cara’s stalker learns the truth of her circumstances, he gives her an ultimatum—submit to his possession or he’ll ruin her second chance at love with James.
